Default Going faster

This wil be a common question but I can't find the answers on the web yet.

I'm running a 21.5 offroad buggy class and my FDR is at 6.01 when I can't go any lower than 6.0...although the other cars seem so much faster on the straights.

I'm running a Hobbyking X-Car 60A Brushless Car ESC as sensored to my Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 21.5 Spec motor. I have my timing increased to 30 and I can't see there being much difference moving it to 40 in speed.

Would a better ESC improve my speed more?

I'm running an aluminium chassis so I'll change to my carbon fibre one but surely that won't improve things that much.

Thank you for any advice.

Is it a blinky mode class?

If it is, that kind of class is going to first be about changing your driving style or even your cars' fundamental suspension/setup to maximize momentum as opposed to grip - the cars that are fastest/"free-est" in the corners will be fastest on the straight. From a technical standpoint, it will be about battery, battery and more battery with having a car at or close to min. weight being important as well.

Yes its blinky and my lipo is 5000 so is ok. Will try to play around with my suspension a bit.

Try using a lighter battery. A 5000 is quite heavy, even compared to a 4000.

Quite right, if your buggy is really heavy, it WILL slow you down some, & nowadays you can save a good amount of weight with the right battery. If you have room to get lighter(assuming your local track enforces weight minimums, if they don't then you REALLY should try this), look into a lightweight Shorty Lipo like the 2 at the top of this page: http://promatchracing.com/products.php?cat=38 . I'm using the first one, & I LOVE it, has plenty of punch, & plenty of run time for any 6 minute race(in fact, I've done plenty of 10 min. practice runs with no drop in punch, only stopped because I was worrying about motor heat), & for my car(a Tamiya TRF201XM), running it keeps my car's weight at about 1512 grams(just fyi, the ROAR min. is 1500g, & even though my local track doesn't care about weight, I like to use the ROAR standard in case I run it anywhere that DOES care about such things). I'm VERY happy with them, & would suggest anyone try them that doesn't absolutely NEED the extra capacity....

What's the peak discharge on your battery?

Or in other words, what is your "C" rating? A "5000" doesn't tell us anything. The 90C Promatch shorty linked to above will be tangibly faster on the track than a 5000/25C pack for example, even if the Promatch is less than 5000 on the capacity. Lower C rated packed tend to have higher internal resistance which makes them significantly less "punchy."

That discribes how much "punch" the battery provides. Higher C, more pop. In a stock class I run a 90c. They might not be outrunning you down the straight, they might just be getting up to speed quicker.

Battery C rating and weight are definitely ways to get faster but it's an expensive road and it's very easy to get carried away.

As a stock racer, here's what I've done:
Run 100C shorty pack
Titanium screw kit
Exotek lightened top shaft
CB Custom's Cut gears

Before doing any of this, check your build again. Bearings should be spinning freely and there shouldn't be any sort of binding anywhere. Especially in the transmission.

Another thing I thought of, if you can, watch a video of your race and pay attention to your line. Then watch the line of the leaders. You might be just a little wide coming out of the corner and that can cost a lot of speed.

Thanks, awesome idea to try. yeah i do know i lose a little time on my line but it was the straight line speed and seeing how I carry out of the corner before straights could be good. All of the above gives me some great options to try. Thank you everyone for your help. Some great advice.
