A peak detection charger is a charger that tells you when the batteries are done, insted of you setting a timer. peak detection is when the charger is charging the batteries and it reaches aq certain level. For example, if the charger puts 8 volts into a 7.2 volt battery pack, the pack will go from 8 volts and drop the tiniest bit. the charger sees this and goes from a full charge to a trickle charge. This is good and bad because sometimes the charger can false peak and only give you a half charged pack, but it also lets you know when the packs are done,so that way you dont damage the packs by putting them on to long. When i charge packs i always push the button 1 more time just in case it false peaked. All chargers and batteries are different in the way the charge, and my example should not be considered right for your question, it is mearly just a simple way to explain what im saying. As for the sound your batteries are making, could you be a little more descriptive on what the sound it.

You can't go wrong with 30-35 mV for the whole pack.

Sounds like one or two of the cells are venting. Sometimes you can fix this by recycling but otherwise you will need new batts.

Whenever I charge any batts with my 959 superbrain the charger makes a quiet high pitched noise that you must be talking about. Its completly normal and all my buddies who have had 959's get this noise aswell. However,If the noise is coming from your battery then idk what happened.
