Default [help] Rear grinding noise on Hyper 9e

Help needed, thanks in advance.

On one of my Hyper 9e, when I accelerate on high traction surfaces (like grass) the rear makes a grinding noise. I can easily reproduce it by holding the rear of the car down and hitting the throttle, the front is ok.

I've rebuild the rear diff, center diff and check the rear drive pinion and the gears looks good. I've also give more play to the drive pinion allowing it to push back in the rear diff when the center diff. is installed, thus allowing less space between the drive pinion and the rear diff crown gear.

I also replaced the center drive shaft with the steel one.

The grinding noise is less dominant but it's still there.

Am I missing something ?

Shimming. After time gears and plastics wear. Shim the outside of the diff bearing on the ring side. The effect is the diff ring gear is moved more toward the pinion gear. Hopefully that's clear.

Thanks, do you have a simpler solution, like changing or replacing something like the rear gearbox, I have spares ? ;-)

You would have to replace the gearbox and diff ring/pinion to avoid shimming. My advise is it's much cheaper to just shim it. It's quicker too since you don't have to disassemble as much. There's probably youtube videos on how to shim if i didn't explain it well enough.
