Default Is the Kyosho EP Fazer a good starter electric rc?

Hi,
I'm new here and recently became interested in rc cars. I have no experience with non toy rc's. I'm looking for something that I can use mainly on paved street and occasional yard (dirt and grass). I also have a thing for Subaru's so this seems like a decent fit for me. I can't post a link yet but this is the part number from A main Hobbies. KYO30912S-B
Kyosho EP Fazer Subaru Impreza Rally ReadySet 1/10 Electric Touring Car w/Syncro 2.4GHz Radio

Any good?

It would be ok. True scale rally cars (like this one) that are based off of 190/200 mm sedans are usually pretty crappy ofroad cars. I don't think it would be able to go through grass easily at all. Smooth dirt or gravel is about all the ofroad it will do. Look at the drx ve kyosho 1/8 rally car, being based on a 1/8 buggy it will handle grass, ofroad much better.

Well that version is double the price at $409. I was hoping to buy something fun with a smaller budget. Just hoping for something to ride around my neighborhood. Not racing or anything like that. Would a truck be more suited to my needs?

Yes, if you plan to run of road much at all a sc truck would be better. What is your budget?

you really want a seperate vehicle for running on the road and off of the road though. A sc truck will never handle as well onroad as a true tc would. So if you will be mainly running onroad get a touring car, but knowing that it will not be revolutionary off road. And vice versa. Don't get a tc for running in the dirt.

Ok, I will make my first car purchase solely on road.
Is the drx ve kyosho 1/8 still my best option? I was really hoping to start out around $200-$300 ready to go.

The sprint 2 from hpi would be a good option. I have one, its quite fun for the price.

I think I might check the HPI Sprint 2 Sport RTR Nissan out. Might even be on the look out for subaru body to swap on to it. Looks like a great starter car. If I do go that route is it worth picking up some small upgrades for it or should I leave it as stock?

Better to save money for a better chassis in the future

Yeah there's always something better. I just don't want to go all in right now as I have other priorities. Maybe I'll scrap the idea for now and when I can buy something like this.
Tamiya 1:10 XV-01 Subaru Impreza WRX STi EP #58528. I saw that recommended in another thread. That I can get for around $215 but then I'm entering into the building world and that adds up quickly.

I thought about recommending one of those. You could do it for under 300 I think. Esc for 35 radio for 30 and servo for 15. You could also do a quick paint job which would only be about 8 dollars. Just a thought.

That's an idea for sure. I'd have to purchase a few tools as well but if it can be done for around $300 then I think it's a good deal.

Edit: A few reviews that I've seen on the xv-01 states that the motor could be a little stronger 20-25mph. That seems a little slow to me. Would I be better off buying something bigger from the start or is it cheaper to upgrade later if I decide its what I want?

Also is a 185mm body a good size for the xv-01? I found a carbon fiber painted body that either comes in 185mm or 200mm.

Specs for the chassis
Vehicle:

Length: 434mm Width: 188mm Height: 150mm Wheelbase: 257mm Gear Ratio: 8.04:1

May not be designed for more motor, anything you get is going to seem slow after you get used to it and run with faster cars. Welcome to RC.

Better to go with the 200 mm one if you get one of those. The xv01 kit does comes with the body though, even is a Subaru.

The 300 doesn't include a battery, but those are available for like 25 dollars now.

The pro xv-01 pro kit doesn't have the body I think.? I was considering spending a little extra for the kit being that it comes with a few upgrades for around $260. I will grab the 200mm since it is carbon fiber painted and already to go. I don't think my diy paint job would look very good ;p
