Talking Tire advice for a NOOB!!

I run on a "fun" track that is outdoors and not regularly maintained. The ground is sort of dusty and dry and I was wondering what type of tires I should be looking at for these situations. I bought some Duratrax Lineups in C2 compound but am not sure if that was a smart move.. I am starting to think a more aggressive tread may have been better.. I have included some pics in hopes of getting some suggestions!

Also on another note I would like to understand "clay" compound tires. Soft/Medium/Hard is easy to understand but where does Clay come in? Softer or harder than the rest? And are they really ONLY good on clay or can be used on dirt too?

Hi, not sure what sort of tread pattern is on the Duratrax lineups are, but I will say, if that is the surface you are running on in pics, as you say, I would go for a more aggressive tyre with a block style tread, maybe proline bowties, or some thing with a chunky tread, just look around...I think that some manufacturers state that some tyres may be better suited on a clay/clay based track, but they may still be suited for a dry dusty loose track, and a soft compound tyre will not last as long as a hard compound tyre, choice is up to you, also depends on how hard your track is on tyres, but a good choice may be going for a medium compound, also remember that a tyre with a fine pin style tread or a close tread style is best suited for a smooth/grooved track with lots of grip, compared to a spaced out block/aggressive style tread is best suited for a loose/sandy type track, also maybe ask other guys at ur track to see what sort of tyres they are running on, hope some of this info has answered ur questions...good luck...

On that, i'd try some Bowties or Losi Eclipse's. Probably Medium compound if you're not super-competitive. You will get much better wear than running soft or super-soft.

I can't really tell how deep the loose stuff is, but if it's really bad, try some Badlands.

Goose bumps are great, that's what I run on the loose clay track!! But the DDs seem to grip more than the gbs on the dirt.

Look, I LOVE goosebumps, but imo what he wants for that surface are proline gladiators or panther boas. Never used the double dees, but they look like they would work exceptionally well on that surface too. Run AKA enduros up front if its a 2wd.

Our Track is very similar to what you show. I run Proline Calibers in the med compound and like them. They work well on race days when the track is swept, I have a few race days and a couple play days and they are wearing very well. I would stay away from the Losi Eclipes they are all right but the foam break down very fast.

I think you might of missed the point of my post, it was a little off topic. Pro-Line?

I was just kidding around though, no harm intended, it's all good.

Goosebumps, Calibers, or City Blocks.

Clay tires really won't work on any surface with dust. The tread on those tires is more of an afterthought, and doesn't cut through the dirt on an outdoor track enough to make a difference.
