Default Just unboxed my first R/C, an Associated ProLite 4x4, time for some newbie questions

I've been wanting to get a hobby grade R/C after playing with Radio Shack crap when I was younger. After doing some research I decided to pick up a Team Associated ProLite 4x4, mainly for bashing purposes. I just unboxed it today, but unfortunately, it's been raining and snowing all day so I don't want to take it outside and run it yet.

After messing around with it a bit in my house, and since I've never actually driven a hobby grade R/C truck, I have a couple of dumb questions:

1. My "binding" light is flashing green (about 1-2x a second), is this normal? This was a RTR kit so the transmitter was already bound when I put the batteries in and all the functions seem to be working. The transmitter is an Associated XP2G and I don't see anything in the manual about that light flashing slowly like that.

2. When doing a very slow start to about walking speed and just driving around really slowly, the truck seems to have really loose grinding gears. I hear grinding until the truck gets some speed. Is this typical?

Thanks for your help!

1) When I've seen those radios around the track, yes, the lights blink on them alot, as long as it works, don't worry about it.

2) That noise is most likely your sensorless motor cogging at very, very low speeds as those do. Again, nothing to worry about.

Enjoy your new truck

Thanks for the help! I took the drive train cover off to look at where the sound was coming from and to check the gear mesh. It does appear to be the coming from from the motor cogging like you mentioned, I guess I'm just not used to sensorless/brushless motors, I've only ever messed around with brushed motors.

Now I just gotta wait for this snow to melt and for everything to dry out...
