im not a newb but thought this would be the best place to post. i have a rush evo and the cabon upper deck was 70 $ [hahahahaNO] so i made my own out of plexyglass. it is 2.5 MM. its thick stuff.i dont know if that will hold .i was thinking of coating it with a fiber glass coating to make it more durabel does any body think that it neeeds to be coated with fiber glass.i will be bashing and racing if that helps

Why not just stick with the stock plate? It's going to be more rigid than the plexi piece, and by the time you add enough fiberglass, it's going to be heavier, and not to mention, ugly as sin.

its plexi glass, I dont think it needs to be stronger. Plus, it must be pretty heavy.

A few problems to consider. Plexi doesn't like nitro fuel - it'll look awful pretty quick, and there's a good chance that a reaction between the nitro and the plexi could weaken the upper deck. And I'm not convinced the plexiglass upper deck would be as strong as the factory deck. How do you plan to beef up the holes that the screws will pass through? The screws may bust the plexiglass the first time you drive the truck. Plexi was never meant prevent torsional flex, your chassis will probably have a bit more flex, too.

So, what was the point of posting your question? You've already got your mind made up. I've been in the hobby for over 20 years - I tried going down this road when I was a kid, it never worked. Ask yourself - Why do I never see plexiglass parts on r/c cars? I'm trying to save you from wasting your time, and possibly embarassing yourself out at the track when the upper deck snaps and you taco your chassis.
Why do you need more room? Modern electronics should fit within the areas that HPI designed to contain them.

I doubt the plexi glass upper deck is lighter than the cf one.
