Default 40km/h on 8.5t bl motor at 7.2v nimh

i just recently upgraded my buggy to ezrun bl combo 8.5t 60a and currently using 7.2v nimh battery. is 40km/h top speed fair enough for this combo (8.5t + 7.2v)? and is there a way of checking the physical appearance (internally) of the motor if it is really 8.5t? because i doubt its 8.5t. in the box and in the sticker at the motor says 8.5t but its not enough proof. my car is hsp xstr with stock 23t/64t gearing

I'm not familiar with your particular car but you need to check your gearing. It looks like you were giving some information here:

http://www.rctech.net/forum/rookie-z...ifference.html

But never replied with the findings. Nimh and low mah (you said 1800) dont lead to high speeds or long run times and without further information not sure how much we can help.

If it came with a manual they usually have gearing recommendations in the back for different turn motors.

You can use a speed calculator to determine the top speed(under ideal conditions) of a particular car.

You'll need to enter in the values of the diff ratio, pinion, spur, motor, battery voltage, transmission ratio and tire diameter and it will output the estimated top speed.

If you're good with math then you can use this guide to try out different variables to achieve a theoretical top speed.

Go LiPo before comparing speeds to anything.

Here's an example of the difference in brushless vs brushed with your car...both on the nimh, and both somewhat slow compared to what I think you're looking for, though using the same motor you have.

A quick 'net search tells me that your car has a final gear ratio of 8.133:1 when using 22/64 what others have done speed runs on (up to about 50 km/h). Your gearing and that motor should be easily capable of this (and more) with a good battery pack and appropriate timing adjustments in the ESC. But with your battery pack, your results don't surprise me at all.

Try a LiPo. Even a cheap, but decent, one like this should wake your car up drastically in both the acceleration and top speed department.
