Did I break it? What would cuase it to do this?(ECX Torment)
I am trying to get me and my son into the R/C hobby, so I picked up an ECX torment for his birthday, which is in about 2 weeks. I wanted to make sure the batteries were charged and that the thing worked so he could play with it as soon as he wanted. Ok, I won't lie, I wanted to play with too. So I charged up a couple batteries and did a little break in on the motor with the first smaller battery. Then I popped in the 3000Mah battery and started having some fun. The car drives great. Defintiely need some heavier shock oil and maybe raise the body up as I am getting a lot of tire rub. Part of that is probably too much speed through the corners on my part too though.
Anyway, I noticed something weird about half way through the run. Driving forward the car drives straight and looks fine. But when going in reverse it looks like the drivers side front tire is is rocking back and forth a little bit. Because this affects the entire chassis it makes the other front tire do the same. So I am guessing on which tire is the main culprit and which is just reacting to the chassis movement, but it looks like the drivers side is doing it more. I took at look at it, but I am still very new to this. Just by handling the tire I can't seem to make it rock, and I don't see anything that looks broke. I'm wondering if the arm(the main plastic part going from the chassis to the tire) and shock are moving up and down causing the illusion the tire is rocking when really is just following the travel of the arm. Obviously I want to make sure the truck is in working order for him. And like I said it drives forward with no noticeable rocking of the tire as far as I can tell. Is this normal behavior for these types of vehicles when using reverse? Thanks! Edit: Upon second look after removing the body I see the wheels do have some play in them. It looks like its probably just enough to give it some wiggle room to help prevent it from breaking. So maybe this is normal behavior? But if so why don't I notice it when going forward? |
The vehicle has toe-out on the front wheels. Helps with high speed tracking and cornering. It will cause instability when reversing though.
