If you can narrow down what kind of car you want, i.e. for what surface (dirt? tarmac?) and what use (racing or bashing) and a more exact price range, it will help others help you narrow it down.

Traxxas would be a good starting point. Their products are durable, relatively cheap, and have good parts support. Start with a 2wd brushed model so you won't have to spend too much right off the bat. But if you are on a even tighter budget, ECX has pretty good beginner models from what I've heard.

im bran new to rc myself, and it is alot more work then i realized, always keeping up the maintenance and what not. but i love doing mechanically work. i would deff go with a cheaper version to start off with. i got a redcat racing volcano monster truck and a redcat 350z drift car. they were $169 each and im happy.

i strongly suggest talking to rc-tradingpost.com
i was amazed at there customer service and patience with me, and eagerness to help resolve any problem. where as a few other places i emailed i was lucky to get a reply. they also have all parts in stock ready to ship. (everything i need so far anyway)

Default Drifting car

I would buy a used associated TC3 or TC4 for drifiting. There are plenty of parts for them and you can pick up a roller (No electronics or motor) for around $50.00. My friend has a TC3 drift car and it works great. He even made his own plastic tires by cutting PVC pipe and gluing them on. Works great!
