Hey man. I'm in the same boat as you... Got out of R/C about 15 years ago, and when I got back into it, it was a whole new world.

I'm a Nitro guy, so I haven't had to get up to speed on the brushless/lipo stuff yet, but I can say that I've been doing a LOT of reading on this forum (and several others) to get educated.

All I can suggest is use the "search" function a lot, and google your heart out. That's what I've done, and I've got a decent handle on things. Plus, post your noob questions here, and the guys that check this area are really great at getting back to others with good info.

Good luck!

This new world is awesome...

Basic equipment..

ESC... obviously a brushless esc is required.. i recommend the Hobbywing V2.0 for a cheap option.. this has turbo functions, everything

ESC communicator.. this piece of equipment allows the altering of all the settings withing the esc.

Motor.. i recommend a tekin 17.5 if racing stock.. but brands are optional. check you local track and see what classes there are. Make sure the motor has the sensor wire option.. this is very necissary.

Battery.. 5000mAh LIPO is awesome for stock.. should get 2 races on each charge. I use a solid case with banana plugs for ease. ROAR legal is a must.

Charger.. many many many options. even quad chargers (4 in 1) as long as it is LIPO ready and has an internal balancer you will be fine.

No need for dyno's or brush cutters or anything like that... just a blowdown with air compressor after each race is all you need.

It was recomended to get a Zubac tester something to check the armatures in the motors. They use it to monitor the magnetic pull of each side. They tell me you want to make sure they stay balanced and never let the motor get over 130 degrees. I run a 13.5 in stock it came in my SC10 already and was told that is what you run.

this Zubac tester in my opinion is not necissary..

if you want to spend money then go for it.. but with my experience of racing the same motor for 3 seasons now, i have not even opened the can up.

cleaning and a drop of oil each meet is all required.

as for temp.. i use a standard temp gun and i have run my motors constantly at 100 DegC for as mentioned, 3 seasons.

same story with me. Every thing is different, but I can afford it a tad better. A tad. Dont know enough yet to even ask the right questions. But Im trying. Bought a 12th scale Rev6 yesterday used, a used brushless speedo and a 17.5 motor. Also bought an old RC10LSO for running around home, got it cheap. Need to equip them both to run, may be up and running tomorrow with the 10LSO. Im hoping.

if you have the skill, you can be competitive and have fun with an off the shelf RTR in a spec class. my friend just did it. like most hobbies you can spend as much or as little as you want to.

BigBen isn't that the truth you can be into a ride for hundreds and hundreds of dollars just depends on how far you want to go with it..And how tough the competion is at your track...
