Default Another newbie looking for advice

Hey everyone. I used to have a lot of RC cars as a kid, and after about 15 years of not owning one I bought a Losi mini LST a few years back. Unfortunately I rarely played with it because we lived in apartment at the time, so I never had anywhere to run it without driving somewhere. Now a few years later we have a house with a fenced 1/4 acre backyard that has a lot of small hills, grass, etc. I broke out the Mini LST last week and started running it in the backyard and had a lot of fun. Unfortunately it's so small that it can't really run in the rougher wooded areas of the yard, I had to stick to the grass (well it's more dirt than grass at this point, we have dogs). But even in the grassy/dirt area I had a lot of issues with fallen leaves, twigs, and other stuff getting stuck in the suspension and wheels and having to be removed every few minutes.

So I'm looking for something bigger that I can bash around the backyard with, chase the dogs, etc. I have absolutely no interest in racing, just bashing around. I'd like to keep it under $275 for an RTR truck if possible. I already have a digital charger (Piranha Digital Peak Charger, can I use that?) from the Mini LST, so I don't need to spend there. The Slash looks to be widely recommended, but my only worry is that it being only 2wd I will have issues in the rougher areas of the backyard. Any other suggestions in this price range, or will the Slash be OK?

For that price a Stampede might be a good bet. Lots of ground clearance.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't consider the stampede. Quite a bit more "wife friendly" on the pocketbook too. I guess the other option is the Rustler which is the same price. Decisions, decisions.

The Slash is tempting. I love the look of those style trucks. Oddly enough after polling my wife she is wanting me to get the Slash, because she wants me to race it in the spec class on off weekends from my other full size racing (I drive Legends cars currently, used to race dirt and asphalt modifieds). I don't think I want to race it though.

With that $50 off $249 code at Tower I decided to go for the 2.4ghz Slash.

You'll love the Slash, the dogs might too! It (the Slash) is plenty durable and has the waterproof electronics. The only upgrade you could do is get some RPM FT/Rear bearing carriers, shock tower and that's about all you'll need for now;probably a long time (unless you ever decide to go w/Lipo batt.)
