practice driven

what is a good way to practice driving when you are not at your local track, I'm trying to sharping my driving skill beacause people are saying practice make perfect. And what do people mean when they say find your fastest line around the track.

I'm curious, but if thats true, then why for the nats in portland are they using vht on the track, which is actually a motel parking lot?

Because a parking lot is different from a street. Parking lots just have cars backing in/out of spots and out of the lot so there is not much rubber put down compared to a street (cars running up & down the whole surface for years)

if you live in the country or have a big yard or something build your own track and make ramps out of pvc pipe cover the ramps with plywood. you can surely find a way to pull the grass anddig up the ground for a track.

Post fastest laps..

might be a bit of a challenge out in the street.. but if your on a track , when driving throught the course. try to imagin straight lines in the corners , then as you get more comfortable running the layout your lap times will drop .. keeping in mind that youll start to apex in and out of the corners with more speed ,shortening up the coarse and getting your fastest lap time for the layout your running... make sure your gearing is correct for the track your running ... if you need practice.. take a couple of road dots out to an open parking lot set up a course and drive around keeping in mind throttle control and driving technic in the turns...... hope this helps...

the fastest way to the goal is a straight line..so, make the track as straight as possible...and do it w/o hitting anything..from what I see.... that is the key to winning..I just cant keep from hitting things
I have only raced twice..but..I have improved by 2 laps in just that...practice is what it takes..only wish i lived closer so I could get some practice in
Just make sure your car is 100% before you head to the race..if you cant practice..make sure you have all of the time in the world when you get to the track
...now..back to my Crown Royal

Try mastering figure 8's. Set up a couple of markers and try to get as close to them as possible without hitting them while doing figure 8's. Also, parking lots usually have plenty of lines painted on them. Practice straight line runs and practice braking.

Besides practising driving the ideal "line", try practising driving different lines.

In a race the ideal line is not always available, so if you are comfortable taking diffent lines you will have an advantage.
