Default First Timer Having Issues

hi there. ive recently purchased a nitro car. im having a couple of issues with it though. i initially couldnt get the thing started. ive taken it to a hobby shop and got it tuned and running.
as i was playing with it today i had a couple of issues. the first is in short distance the car is running perfectly with no issues, but when it goes about 20-30m away from me, it starts accelerating itself and going mad. i was wondering what the cause for this might be and what will i need to do to stop this happening?

Thats called glitching. I assume this is AM? Is your car antenna fully extended? Is the Tx antenna fully extended? Check the batts in the car and the TX - generally they're pretty cheap, may be old to start with and don't last long. I'd try with a fresh set unless a voltmeter indicates they're at or close to the full 1.5v each.

Get a 2.4 GHZ radio. The Tactic is like $90 for a TX and RX, or invest a little more if you plan on having multiple vehicles.

yes get your self a 2.4 set up and you will be much happier. If you look around you can find them dirt cheap.

I had the same issues. There was another dude across the way from me using his AM radio and it was messing me up since I was using an AM one too.

I recently purchased a Spektrum DX3.0 for about 109.99 at the Barn Floor RC:

The 2 main reasons I bought it was because it has 4 model memory and it was 2 4Ghz. I'm just getting to know what all the other stuff this thing does. It was pretty straight forward using the BIND feature to hook up the radio to both my rigs.

All of the above, making sure you have GOOD batteries in car is a major factor!!! In nitro they run both servos and power the receiver, that's alot to ask from 4 AA's...

yes it is am. my antennas both on the controller and the car are fully extended. i got my car tuned by the local hobby store. he actually mentioned changing the radio system. he said it will cost me around $110. would this be worth changing or would i be better off using good branded batteries all the time? would varta rechargeable batteries be sufficient to run in the car and in the controller?

also is there an online store where i could find all the parts that i would need if i was to break something on the car?

It's totally worth switching to 2.4 GHZ. Don't let him sell you an FM set-up either, even though it's better it still has frequency/glitching problems.

With full batteries, whats the range on:
a) A 27MHz system
b) A 2.4GHz system?

I keep thinking I will run out of radio range and keeping my car within 100 metres of me

It depends on the system.

I have the Airtronics MX-Sport and it has a ridiculous range, like 1000 feet. Whereas the Spektrum has 300 ft. Both are 2.4 GHz
