Question abouut constantly swapping electronics around
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to all this, and I have a question for those of you who are always swapping your electronics from car to car.
I have a tt-01 with a stock motor/esc for racing and a Novak brushless system for bashing. I'm also planning on getting a SC10 truck and using the brushless in that. But what I'm unsure of is if there's an easier way to swap my stuff from one vehicle to the other. Right now whenever I swap from my brushless esc to my stock esc, I have to just peel it off (it's attached with that double sided tape the kits usually come with) and then stick the new one on. Well I go through a lot of double sided tape that way, and it's a real pain in the ass to have to do that each and every time. Is there an easier way to mount this thing than dbl sided tape? Something that I can re-use maybe?
I'm also going to be swapping my radio rx from the sc10 to the tt-01 all the damn time, so that makes two things to move. Sad panda.
Well, I got some of the industrial strength velcro from Home Depot today. I guess it will work well enough, but I don't like the fact that the rx and esc are free to wiggle around a bit this way. Might have to wrap an elastic around it or something too..

Depending on what you put them in, can you put a strip on the side of the esc/rx, and have it up against the chassis, with a strip there also? For future use, when your budget allows, maybe look for a used rx and or esc, it will save time and headaches..What brands are you using by the way? RX/ESC?

Honestly, IMHO, the systems are not designed to be transfered back and forth between vehicles. What you "need" to do is save up your money so you have one set-up in each, and that way eliminate the headache for yourself by not trying to be cheap. If you have two RCs, get two sets of electronics...or decide which one you use more and leave them in that one. They need to be secured so as to protect them, that's why we use servotape, not in there loosely for convenience and so as to risk breaking something.
I remember when they first came out with "industrial strength velcro" 20 years ago, back when electronics were expensive (compared to now), and everyone thought it was going to be the hot ticket to save some money - until the first guy showed up at the track using it, ran into a barrier or went over a jump, and his high-dollar ESC and other electronics were dangling out from under the car.
Well, I have a TT-01 and an AE SC10. The TT-01 has a stock motor/esc for racing, and I have a Novak Havoc brushless motor/esc for bashing (in either the sc10 or the tt01). I just got the SC10 the other day, but I also have a brushed motor for it, for racing. Was planning to use the novak esc to power it.
As for tx/rx it's a Tactic ttx-240 2.4 ghz system. I do plan to get another rx some time in the future, but for now I've spent more money than I wanted to on this hobby, I'm not a serious racer yet, so I don't want to spend a bunch more on duplicate electronics.
And even if I did, that still wouldn't solve the problem regarding switching out my bashing motor/esc with my racing motor/esc. Ideally I would like to find some sort of bolt/screw in setup that will still hold them nice and snug, but still easily removed when needed.
If the cost of one single solitary (cheap) receiver is holding you up, then perhaps you need a cheaper hobby... no offense.
It's kind of like buying a Honda street car, without engine, and complaining that it's a pain to swap the engine out of your wife's pick-up truck every time you need to go to town. There's a reason nobody does that, same with RCs.
I understand you're not a "serious racer," but you've crossed the line into that of a "serious hobbyist." And you made a "rookie mistake" by getting a car/truck before you could afford electronics for it - just saying, don't make another rookie mistake by wrecking your electronics (or thinking you can re-invent the wheel) doing something that's been proven foolhardy many times before.
I'm trying to save you from screwing up your stuff, and you're seemingly intent on not listening.
Yeah you definitely misunderstood me. What I meant to say was that I intend to buy a second rx soon. They are only $25.
What I do NOT want to have to do is go out and buy a second brushless system. Eventually I may. But right now the main problem I am having, just to reiterate, is that I have two cars that use one motor and esc for race day, and race day only, and then a second motor/esc that's not race legal, for bashing. So whenever I want to go race, I have to remove the motor/esc for bashing and put in the race setup. If I'm racing once a week and bashing in between, that's a lot of esc swapping. Ergo, I want a faster way to swap my esc in and out. That's all I'm asking, and I definitely feel that it's a pretty reasonable thing to want to do.
Do you "Bash" the same car you race with? If so IMO there would be your second mistake. Get yourself a CHEAP Basher that way you can leave your race setup alone, i fell into the category that your in right now with bashing and racng the same car when i was fairly new to all of this, just does not work way to many headaches, like your experiencing now. As far as you swapping electronics i do not recommend it as point made above this stuff is way to expensive to ruin. The best way to accomadate this is choose one of the 2 cars you have that you like racing better, and just leave it alone racing only, the other one bash the hell out of it all day everyday if you want. I hope this helps you out some, Good Luck to you!

eh, I thought about that.. I was considering buying a touring car to race next year, and just bash the tt-01, but I dunno yet. I need to race more first, see how I like it etc.

I understood fine, but you misunderstood me. Or, as I said, you're just not listening and haven't bothered to read a single one of my posts.
It would seem that a sensible person wouldn't want to risk their valuable electronics, especially since that's the only set-up you have, by potentially having it fall out of the car due to a velcro failure and shorting out the whole system.
Next, a real racer doesn't bash their race stuff. They save it for the track, and apparently in your case you can't afford to break anything bashing.
And all that being said, it seems you should limit yourself to concentrating on "racing" in one class until you can afford to properly equip your second car. To me, you're in way over your head.
