This weekend was my first time racing rc cars in close to twenty years. To make it worse I had only driven an on road car a total of five minutes in my life.
Anyway, I headed to Parkersburg WV on Friday for my first evening of racing. I had an absolute blast. The people there were amazing, some of the nicest, most helpful people you could ever hope to meet. By the time the night was over I managed to make a lap or two without crashing. I completed two out of six races, one of which my car limped across the line. I (or someone else) also managed to fix my car after each and every race. Yes, I was that bad!
On Sunday I headed back to Parkersburg for another day of fun. I was running late but one of the club members was nice enough to register me when he saw my post in the local forum. How cool was that?
I finally made it there around eleven and paid for my three classes. Once again I managed to hit just about everything (and everyone) on the track. After one member checked out my car and found a problem another one of the members was awesome enough to rebuild all of my shocks and to setup my VTA car for me. WOW, what a difference. The next race I gained five laps and won the heat!!! There are still some more bugs to work out on that car but the difference was night and day.
The same gentleman was nice enough to look over my TC car and make a few adjustments and some recomendations. I've ordered some parts so hopefully the tc will handle about as well as the vta next weekend.
I had a blast racing the stadium truck as well. The only thing I replaced on it yesterday was the servo. It was only working part of the time so I thought that may be a problem. I did manage to luck into winning one heat with it as well. It was complete luck though thanks to a bonus lap I won by clearing a jump. In the b main I choked pretty bad and finished third out of four. Good enough for me, I was just happy to finish.
To make matters worse, I even had a great time turn marshalling. My knees are paying for it now but it was worth it.

Wow, just realized how long that post was. So for the lazy readers like me here is the clif note version.
I raced my first races Friday and Sunday. I met a lot of great people. I broke a lot of parts. I won two heats. I choked in the mains. I had fun turn marshalling. I had an amazing time and can't wait until Friday to do it all again.

I've spent half my life r/c racing... and the other half wishing I had started it earlier :D
If you're not having fun whilst racing, you're not racing!
Yeah, I'm glad there is people like that at most tracks, it helps bring new people to racing. Some tracks don't have nice people like that, and it drives people away
Radio
Servo
Front and Rear bumpers
Body
Axle carriers x3
Servo horns x3
Steering Linkage
I can understand everything except for the radio. I wasn't even bad enough to break my radio!!!

Your right Boom. I brought my 7 year old son to watch an outdoor track race and he was soooooo excited when we got there. The people were real jerks. Wouldn't talk to us or even let him get close to the cars so he can see what is really involved with racing. He and I were very discouraged at that track. I searched through this forum and found another track close by. We went there and had a completely opposite experience. All the hobbiest welcome us and let us ask ? and see their cars and gear up close. Very nice people. Even suggested what my son should start running and what class. I am glad I found this track or my son would have probably walk away from the hobby. You can only do so much backyard barnstorming.

You HAVE to have fun people around you in this hobby, especially when starting out.

Of course I could be wrong, but I've only been wrong once and that's when I thought I was wrong but wasn't.
I had another great night of racing last night. I finished most of the races, only had a few minor problems.
In the stadium truck races I had a problem with the push rod ends coming loose still and I am having a really tough time getting traction. I think I am going to try some different tires.
In the stock (17.5 rubber) I did much better. I managed to break a wheel in one of the heats and then in the main somehow I managed to get the front belt under the pinion. That put an end to that race. I still have a long way to go but I am getting a little better.
In the VTA race I did much better. I didn't break anything in the heats which was amazing. In the main I had the lead for the majority of the first six minutes of the eight minute race. Around the six minute mark my front right shock came loose which caused me a lot of time. I was able to hold onto second place though which I am very happy about!
Once again everyone at the track was awesome and I had a blast!!!
Here is a picture of the wheel I busted.
