Not really new to R/C, but took a 2 year break and was a Nitro guy. I was able to pick up a very lightly used SC10 with an LRP X11 6.5 turn brushless and LRP Sphere brushed/brushless ESC.
It didn't come with batteries but we ran it on his LiPo and it screamed. Why mess with Nitro? is what I was thinking...
Anyway a few newbie questions:
I bought a Lipo 6500 2S2P 7.4V Battery Pack from MaxAmps.com as far as I can tell this will be a great battery for this setup, but I wanted to make sure. Will this work?
I also bought a used MaxAmps 6000 2S from a board member. This will work, right?
But after that, heres my main question: Other than the standard LiPo warnings, what do I need to watch out for on my specific truck? I have no idea about engine/ESC/battery temperatures but I can of course monitor them... what is generally acceptable?
And is there anything else I need to be careful of?
I think most companys recommend that the motor not exceed 170 Degrees
and the esc should be way cooler than that.
Don;t charge hot lipo batterys, don't over charge, don;t run dead = to less than 3.0v per cell
Really if your lipos are hot they can't handle your set-up anyway.....lipos should never really be hot, warm at most...110-120deg IMO, even though they say 140deg. is o.k. 140 IMO isn't good and could lead to a shorter life span....

6.5 in a sc10? the thing must be crazy fast to drive!
I think it's useless for anything other than breaking parts but that's how he bought it so he's not the insane one..
Oh and you might have trouble keeping a 6.5 under the safe 160deg. mark in an SC10. Racing you might but you're probly not gonna get a long bashing session with it.

How do you keep the tires on the wheels. That thing must be uncontrollable.
To answer your questions:
Motor = just make sure you stay under 180* (degrees)
ESC = same as above just make sure you temp is way lower than your motor
Batteries = Try to buy a decent charger/balancer and make sure you store them in a cool, safe place. The batteries you have are great a little overkill for racing but great run times for bashing.

LoL yeah I figure it will be fast. It didn't come with batteries so other than a 10 minute parking lot session. He has the ESC down to "low traction" and it still leaves about 15-20 feet of rubber before it grabs hold.
It's upgraded to handle the power, at least I hope it is... the drivetrain is upgraded with a bunch of stuff.
Thanks for the comments, guys. Batteries come on Monday so we'll see how she runs!
Oh and I did get a nice charger also from MaxAmps, of course with balancer...
do u plan on racing or bashing?
racing, sell the motor off for a 13.5 max, 17.5 better yet. sc10's are a handfull with to much power
bashing, get 3 more trucks...u'll need the parts
Most at my track run 10.5 in the "mod' Class and there is ONE person with 6.5 and he does pretty good with but it can take flight on command w/ a blip of the throttle..
By Hot I mean directly after running while they are warm/hot I think that 105 is hot for my batts in the 8E
Slash they hardly warm up above ambient temp.
well, got one of my batteries in the mail today. It's the smaller, used one. As I figured, it's almost uncontrollable in the dirt but I did make a small ramp with a piece of plywood and 2 blocks stack on top of each other... and it was easily making 15' jumps.
It's only running about 30mph, I followed it down the road in my car. I can't wait to get the MaxAmps in it, they claim 45mph in "most" brushless setups with that battery.
Ran it for about 25 minutes, mix of flat-out on the road and just running around the dirt portion of my lot (it's about 160' x 80' area) and the battery was barely warm, the ESC didn't seem any warmer than ambient, and the motor was also barely warm.
Will get some video of it once we get the ESC programmed so it has brakes (that sucks at 30mph) and the new battery.
