Well I just bought one (Backdraft3.5) and i have broke it twice both times rookie errors I think. I have been in this about two weeks and put 2 gallons of fuel threw it. Car runs great, handles good, hauls ass, good take off I have stirpped a servo ( sideways into a bike rack wide open at full throttle.) and i stripped a spur gear (nobvody told me not land jumps full throttle. anyway I bought it because it was less expensive and the hobby shop I bought it from has the parts. It's purpose was to make sure i really wanted to get into this sport the answer is yes. I want to buy a beast to race with that is easy to get parts and hop ups for. or Can i find hop up for this redcat and start racing with it. but if they suck i dont want to show up at the track with one
you do get what you pay for. those off-shore internet companies are sure shifty in their business tactics. dont kill a pullstart--most of them tell you to buy a new engine. stuff like that.
honestly, spend the cheese and u'll be glad you did. good to see u got some time outta the car. but a RTR from 1 of the mainline RC manufs (AE, Losi, Ofna etc) will serve you far better.

Look at the Hot Bodies D8 if you want a decent inexpensive racer. I personally have never owned one but the ones I have raced against are very competitive. Keep in mind they were driven by long time racers but I have always heard good things about them.

Even crap cars can be fun to bash and learn on. As long as the thing keeps running and isn't going to cost a fortune to keep up, run it. When it dies a painful death, or you just get tired of it, look for something better.
thats what i am going to do. Learn on this one if it breaks alot at least i will have some exerince with working on one and diagnosing problems. I am thinking of maybee losi or an hpi kit. I am very good with my hands and very mechanicly inclined
Don't be afraid to take it to the track. Go out there and mix it up with the big boys. Who cares how expensive your car is? Hit the track and get a real feel for the sport, it's far different than bashing around. Much more fun too. It will give you the opportunity to see how your car really handles and learn how to make adjustments.
As far a those spur gears stripping, do some searching and see if you can cross reference a better made one. I'm assuming it's a plastic gear, if so you really want metal. 1/8 scale buggies are brutal and make a lot of power, plastic gears will never hold up to the abuse.
my wife sure thinks it is. As far as going to track i still dont feel i have control; enough to race it. where i go by my house is wide open park and i have a hard time practicing throttle control. I just go all out till i wreck. (probably why I break it all the time)
Remember this for your next purchase. You already spent a lot of money on your red cat, that youll be lucky to sell for half. Now your going to buy a quality car that will hold its value, last longer and be more competitive.
You just made your purchase twice. Take that as a lession as you go into this hobby. Buy the best you can afford once, rather than cheap first, then replace it later down the road - which will always be more expensive.
Just my .o2 over 20 years in the hobby.

Hit the track, throw it down with the local racers, some mite heckle you but don't pay attention to them. You will make mistakes but you'll learn from them.

Yes I sell the Redcat in my shop. Maybe you might think I would favor Redcat because I sell it in my store, I don't. (1) Redcat is in Arizona, Yes the good old USA (NOT an off-shore internet company) Yes the models are made in china where 95% of every other rc car is made. (2) I can supply any parts for Redcats at any time in stock in my store (3) Most models come with SH Nitro Motors. (how many pull starts would you like to purchase?) (4) If you ever saw a Backdraft go you would be shocked and amazed. And also support is better them most people think. Ohh yea I also sell Losi...

I sell redcats in a hobby-store that i work at and they sell alot, they are great cars there is no problem with finding parts because we sell them all here, did you know that redcat gets there motors for the 1/5 scale cars from the same place that hpi gets there motors from so they use the same parts, go just as fast ETC.
