Default What does 13x2 mean (motor)?

What does the NxN notation for motors mean? I'm looking at participating in a stock racing class that requires a 13.5T motor, and I don't know if a 13x2 motor is suitable or not. Does it essentially mean a 13T that's double wound? Or does that equate to a 26T motor?

Thanks!

13x2 means 13 turns with 2 strands of smaller wire vs say a 13x1 which is 13 turns with one strand of bigger wire.

A 13.5 is a brushless term and only equates to brushless. No a 13.5 and a 13x2 are nothing alike. A 13x2 is way faster than a brushless 13.5. If you don't have brushless they may let you run a 19turn motor but never a 13x2. You should talk to the track you want to race at and see what they will let you do.

Thanks! How would I equate 13.5 (or 17.5) back to the kV rating of a brushless motor?

There is no direct conversion. The closest comparison you'll find is this but they are not the same...

17.5 / 27turn
13.5 / 19turn
10.5 / some say 15-17turn

most places that run both brushed and brushless together will use those equivalents, including ROAR.

Thanks Racer. I should have clarified a bit more. Assume we are comparing two brushless motors, how do I equate 10.5/13.5/17.5 numbers to kV rating (like the Neu/Castle Creations motors that are given in kV rating).

I have both a Castle Creations setup (Neu BL + MM), and the brushes setup (13x2 Reedy modified + LRP ESC).

http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...spec_chart.htm

Most, if not all manu. give a kv rating for there motors, not all 13.5,s are the same though. This chart will give a rough idea.

I don't know why they don't all use the same "lingo" that's just the way it is.

13.5 just sounds better than 2200kv I guess. 13.5/17.5 ratings also make it easier to set motor rules. Every motor has to be say 13.5 turns no matter how many kv they can get out of it.

Some manu. might need a 3.5 to get 9000kv while another might get 9000kv out a 4 turn.

Default wires

i wanna know for example i have a 11x3 motor isit that the more wires there are the more faster the motor runs or what? As my understanding is that this motor has three wires? Also how fast + - will my car run with this motor?

nope. The fewer number of winds (the 11 number) the faster the motor. the x1, or x1, or x3 will dicate its power delivery characteristics... i.e., how smooth or punchy the motor might feel. But overall power, is deteremined by the number of winds.

single wind has more torque, higher winds like triple or quad have more rpm. for offroad, use single or double. As for touring car, since it's 4wd I would use single or double as well.

if you got a pan car and run on high speed straightway or oval track, then use triple or quad.

watch your gearing.

if you racing the 13.5 class, I highly recommend you go brushless.
