Hey fellas, I'm new to R/C cars and looking for a little info.
I recently picked up a HPI RS4, I'm not sure how new it is or what parts are aftermarket or not. The car is extremely dirty and full of gunk, it has a very hard time starting, once it runs though it screams.(It could actually be slow but my newbness says its fast)
Where can I find some identifying numbers on this thing? Also what are some tips you would give to a newb?
Thanks guys here are some pics(cell phone)........
Your not really gonna find any "identifing" numbers on any car really. Some might have the name of the car on them and with nitro the motor should have its brand and size on it but that's about it.
You could have a number of reasons it starts hard. Old fuel, old glow plug, weak ignitor, pin hole in the fuel line or the motor could be tired.

If the car is as dirty as you say, the motor is probably pretty gunked up. I would just run a couple of tanks through it and it should get better and better. I'm 90% sure the Nitro RS4's came with the purple Alum. chassis you have in the pics. You probably have a box stock Nitro RS4
Anybody know if he's supose to be missing that big chunk of cooling fins in the head I know there are heads out there like that but I'm not sure this is one of them

I personally do not buy used rc cars, but in your case i would suggest you get some good rc tools & take apart (1 or 2 pieces at a time unless u feel comfortable with more) the car and clean everything off.
Check all main parts(motor, fuel tank, lines, servos, chasis, etc..) for defects or breaks or cracks.
After you clean it up it will look and feel "newer" to you and you will know everything is ok with it. Get a instruction manual for that car from the manufacturer.

yeah he would need a new head that one is messed up but u should just buy a whole new motor
