look up ur current esc online and see what it says. most can handel a lipo but not all. my son runs lipo in a stock slash and it screams

also be sure to get a charger than can charge lipos, I sugest a duratrax onyx 230, it can charge 4 different types of batteries

Hey Duster, That to me says that AE is covering their butt, which they should, in the fact that the esc has no lipo cut-off. They know that most RTR are going to be used for bashing and the chance of running a lipo too low is more possible. I would think you could run a lipo but at your own risk.

Losi says the same thing about the esc in the 1/10 Slider (no lipo) I've run mine on a lipo and it's fine just no built-in cut-off.

Thats same take I had on it, its doable, but typical brushless esc with no voltage cutoff.

Smart stop should provide an lvc unless there's something going on like with a Slashes stock esc.

I'd convert it to brushless anyway. All my 18ths are converted - only one of my rtrs was ever run as brushed, rest were converted as soon as I took them out of the box.

first part of your question: no you don't have to run brushless to run lipo. Brushless is better though. You can run brushless without lipos too.
