Default Starter box Q's

Ok i searched, and found out about what they are good for, and the main reasons that i would want to use one, however im still unclear on how exactly it works. The bottom of my buggy has a hole in the chassis where the flywheel, and "clutch gear?" is it doesnt seem practical to spin the clutch gear, so it would want to spin the flywheel (if im thinking of it right), but it doesnt have teeth so is it a rubber traction wheel that spins it or something? My other question is if i didnt have a pullstart what would mount to the backplate to seal it up, do i just take the one way bearing and shaft out of my engine? By the way i have a mach 26... thank you.

A starter box works by spinning the flywheel. You align the opening in the chassis underneath the flywheel with the starterbox's rubber wheel and the starter box will start to spin when push your vehicle on to it. Starterbox's normaly have a bar on the back near the spinning wheel which is spring loaded and whil activate the wheel when it is pressed down by your vehicle. The wheel starts spinning before it hits the flywheel and when it's up to speed, you let the wheel hit the flywheel and you're engine should start over. You said your engine used a pull start correct? If so, you will need to buy a new non-pullstart crankshaft and backplate. Pullstart engines have a extra nub at the end that is used to turn the engine by the pullstart and the backplate is used to take place of the pullstarter.

If you have any more Q's or need clarification, you can pm me.

1 corection, you don't need a new crank and backplate, just leve the pullstart on.

That is true, but in race conditions it's best to have less drag.

yes, it does matter. If you spin the flywheel in the wrong direction, then the car will go backward.

The flywheel on your nitro should be turning counterclockwise when you're looking at it from the clutchbell end. Same as electrics.

Depending on your brand or model of car/truck, there may be a starter box specifically suited for it. I personally like the chrome-top OFNA box with no pegs so I can use for any car any brand.

If you spin the engine the wrong direction with the pull-start still attached you'll either lock it up or rip the pullstart to pieces. Most nitro engines won't run well backwards, but they may start.

The OFNA boxes I've fooled with have, but its juat a matter of wiring to reverse the motor direction if its wrong.

Also you don't need to buy a new crank when going from PS to BS, you can just grind the nub off the crank and install a non-pull (BS) backplate.
I've done this with O.S. .12's.
