This was a major topic of discussion for my stock class saturday, lots of talk about dropping to a 78 spur and a bigger pinion, so, if you guys have good advice here I wouldn't mind suggestions! T4, 17.5 novak, off-road dirt. Ended up running a 81 spur and 31 pinion cause I couldn't get my hands on a 78 that day and I was pretty happy but think there can be more overall performance available.

since we dont know the vehicle use this do find your correct fdr (final drive ratio) pinion/spur x internal gear ratio. that will show you your final drive ratio. larger pinion will bring the fdr lower which gives the car more top end and lower spur also increases the top end.
read this and it will give you your answer.

gearing
I've read that people are looking to get an FDR of 6.1 in 1/10 trucks and 5.9 in 1/10 buggy's. Are those FDR's good numbers to be at? Does the lower the FDR mean more top end and the higher the FDR mean quicker acceleration?
I run a xxxt-cr with 78/35 on an outdoor track. It has some straights and of course jumps, but it's not a huge, tight track. It runs ok but I could probably go down on the pinion. I also ran it at a tighter indoor track and the 78/35 was horrible. I then tried 78/30 and the truck was super fast and jumped like it had legs. I was able to get over any jump from a very short distance from the jump. The motor and ESC did not get very hot either. I still get confused about what spur and pinion would be best though.
Does that 66/33 in a B4 buggy give it the quick acceleration or slower from start and faster in the middle of the straight? Do you use 66/33 on a tight track or a bigger track? I also have a B4 but not sure where to gear it. Some people use 76/34 at the tighter indoor track. I tried 78/30 at the outdoor track and it seemed slow. I haven't tried anything different in it yet though.

find a smaller spur to put on it, 76-78 AND put a bigger pinion on it, 26-28..start somewhere in there and make sure you adjust accordingly for temps..
