paint or cut 1st??
so i have an evo VI body to paint. hpi says paint 1st, tamiya says cut and trim 1st. which do you guys do? i've always cut 1st, but if painting 1st is better, then i'll try that.

first place the body on the car. then make marks on the outside of the body where the holes go. dont worry because there is an outer protective seal for the body. then go ahead and paint it. once you have painted it, cut it out correctly for the wheel wells are supposed to be.

I get better results cutting 1st and then painting. With it all cut out, I place it on top if the rc and mark the body post locations carefully. Then it gets washed inside, dried and window masks applied if I'm using them. Paint is next.
When I tried paint 1st, the cuts left the paint looking weird on the edges where it was cut.

I mark the body post holes with a sharpie, then paint. After it's dry, I cut. But really, there is no right or wrong way to do it. Just do it the way you think is best.

i painted first then cut, just to try it the hpi way. next time i will cut first, it has worked best for me in the past. thanks for all the help. the body looks good and i'll post some pics when its all done, decaled and mounted.

I mark and cut the holes before I paint the body.
I used to mark then paint then cut but in my excitement I pulled the overspray film off - with the body post marks.
It's not impossible to mark the holes on a painted shell, but it's far more accurate doing it before.

if u cut first then you dont have to worry about chiping the paint when your cutting it after its painted. so cut it out first u wont regret it

heres some pics. i havent put the wing on yet. i dont really like the factory wing, so im deciding what to do with it. also, when painting the body before you cut it, i forgot to mask the wing sections that were in the wheel areas. know what i mean? it turned out well, but next time i will definately cut then paint.
