Default Ice or 989 charger

Looking to get a nice charger as i don't yet have one.

I may be using LiPo batteries for the Tx and Rx, but may go with NiMh depending on cost. I also may be buying my kid a vehicle in the near future and am unsure if I will get him gas or electric. In addition, I have regular 12v batteries to power my starter box and I know the 989 can do standard batteries. (I do have a low amperage maintenance charger for the 12v batteries currently as I use it with my motorcycle in the winter)

if buying used, would you guys select an Ice charger and use the small one I already have for the 12v, or just go all in one with teh 989 super brain?

i'm leaning toward the 989 just to keep everything covered in one package.

Mike

I have owned both and currently own the 989, For overall use I prefer the 989for simplicity, no need to get a powersupply, easy to setup and does a great job. I have owned competition electronics charges as well in the past and would say for the money it is a great charger

Since the 989 supposedly handles more batteries in memory and has a larger capacity for charging those batteries plus does 12v lead acid, why do you all suggest the ICE over the 989?

Is there a feature I don't know about that makes it that much better? (cause just realized I need to buy a PS with the ICE charger as well.

Well, I wound up getting an ICE charger used from a member on this site. Hopefully everything goes OK with it getting to me.

No, I don't have any charger yet and was looking to buy a nice one. I bought the ICE charger and PS used here and it should be at my door either today or tomorrow.

Trust me, if I already had one or the other I wouldn't be spending the $$ on another as I have plenty of other stuff I need to spend extra $$ on.

I have the Super Brain 989 and it is pretty decent so far. I have run about 10-15 cycles with my Orion 4800 lipos without a problem.
