on above, that's my old multi copter frame F450 that use 4S battery.
Now i build new frame S500 that better for install 4S battery. see below

The important things for multi copter that will use 4S battery are ...
+ Motor must support 4S battery (or up)
+ Propeller must suite for 4S battery
+ ESC must support 4S battery (or up), and support max cuurent of motor use, and i always use ESC that have firmware 'SimonK'

YouTube Video => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4jfgjdn7ws

with my new frame S500 that fly in this video. i use ...
Frame : S500
Motor : EMAX MT2213 935KV
Propeller : EMAX 1045
ESC : for multicopter with SimonK firmware, 30Amp, 2-4S Li-Po

but i will upgrade motor and propeller for suite with my total weight soon.
So, if you want a better solution, you should wait for new solution

you can see my update things at facebook page http://m-rotor.com (this will redirect to my facebook page)

you should try to search it at ebay.

Propeller : 2 x EMAX 1045 CW , 2 X EMAX 1045 CCW
ESC : 4 x ESC for multicopter with SimonK firmware, 30Amp, 2-4S Li-Po
BEC : switching 5V 3A
Flight control : i build it myself, but you can use APM 2.5.2 or 2.6 instead
GPS module : Ublox Neo-6M with compass
battery sensor : Power module for APM, BEC 5.3V / volt sensor / current sensor

many details about FPV, OSD, Radio Telemetry devices

First step to build your DIY, you should define purpose of your DIY drone.
it will fly for ?
for fun , for fly acrobatic ,
for fly simple video record, for fly high quality video record,
for fly FPV fun, for fly FPV+OSD+high quality video record,
or ...

one drone can't do all purpose, so you should define it purpose at first.
then select flight control board that suite with it purpose,
then select frame for it purpose,
then select option devices for it purpose,
then select battery for it purpose,
then select motor + propeller that can support total weight and support battery voltage,
then select ESC that can support motor current and battery voltage.

warning about transmitter & receiver.
it 2.4G technology very important for sure and range of control.
many of low cost TX/RX use poor 2.4G technology, only few low cost brands that have good 2.4G technology.
