Minicat racing boats are great boats, but they're very small and imo extremely overpriced. I have the little hydro they make. For a beginner I would not suggest a hydro, especially a tiny one like minicat makes...

You need to check out aquacraft boats, and proboat boats. Those are going to be the best rtr's on the market. For the most part... also go check out offshoreellectrics.com forum. You will find all the knowledge you're looking for, and tons of information about making an educated first boat purchase.

Looks like I will be getting a secondhand deep v mono hull & will be upgrading the electrics but I'll see how it goes before I invest too much

I have been in this hobby over 25 years..
Go to off shore electrics and read all you can before getting into boats.
They are much different then anything else and require regular maintenance to be reliable.
Yes there are RTR boats but even the best of those have there issues.
PLease PLease read what you can before buying one.
And NEVER swim for a flipped RC boat!

I have & it looks like a deep v mono hull is suitable for a newbie & I may be able to get a good secondhand one that I'll need to upgrade the electrics for $50 but I'll have to check everything out before I purchase it I was thinking about a 1800kv - 2100kv what do you think about this option

The TFL Pursuit fell through so looks like I'll need to save up for a new RTR or ARTR I'm thinking either TFL or Proboat my original budget was $250 for a secondhand but I may need to rethink that
