Default $300 or under boat for 7yr old

Ok guys I'm looking for a beginner boat for my 7yr old... I have no experience in the rc boat world so some feedback would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

proboat has lots of go choices, could get two for that price and be able to race against each other. I would not go any smaller than the 17 inch models.

Go with the Atomik Barbwire XL. It has a self righting hull which is huge for a youngster. Just the time it saves you trying to retrieve it everytime it flips over is worth the investment.

I paid $206 shipped. It's fast, handles well and he/she won't outgrow it.

Pro Boat brushless Shockwave 26 would be perfect. The hulls are ABS, but stout. When it's time for more speed, drop in a 1500kv motor from a BlackJack/Miss Geico 29 and it'll run close to 50mph on a single 3s LiPo and 48-50mm prop, when it's time for more speed. Replacement parts are also fairly inexpensive for them.

Not sure if I can post links or not but I'm quite pleased with the HobbyKing Quanum Aquaholic. Very stable decent 8-10 minute run times on 3S for $120-$150. Add Radio battery and receivers and youre G2G

I bought this and i'm extremely happy.

FT012 on ebay, made an offer (unable to post link due to post number)

i paid $130 i think couple months back, the only thing i changed was 1 bearing and prop. It's the perfect entry boat imo. And at a good price, parts easy to find also. Fast and looks really nice. Although needs some maintenance has brushless motor
