Default Huh?

We were on the subject of the Spartan race boat, I understood that just fine.

How did we get here?

People just don't lend accounts to unknowns.

Its ok.. back to the thread though..Planning on getting a metal prop and some more trim tabs..I guess these aid in stability??

Hello

I was just wondering, is there a different part or model number to make sure when buying a traxxas spartan that I'm getting the 3rd generation model with the new hull and electronics?

Thanks

Thanks

I have been waiting for my local hobby shop to get their new supply of spartan's in with the updated electronics but this was the first I had heard of with a new hull.

Any new shipment's should be new stock. I think the transition was sometime in June so by now unless they never sell a boat most shops should have the new ones.
Blue, TRAB59BB
Red, TRAB59RR
Those are the Traxxas new part numbers. Not sure they have changed though.

Side note:

MAKE SURE you grease the drive shaft. I am usually really good about reminding everybody to do it, well I didn't go out the last time my buddy ran his Spartan and he did not grease it (always runs 2- 3 cells) it melted the liner to the shaft and then to the stuffing tube. Its about $60 in new parts including Radio tray, shaft, and stuffing tube. He is lucky he did not melt the boat down with that kinda load.

Just make sure to grease the drive shaft. Also remember to let it cool down after each run. Also after my buddy use 20c packs I would suggest using at least 30c packs. Reason is that 20c seems to be being over amp'd a bit causing them to fall off quicker. This wears the ability of the battery to store a charge and you get shorter and shorter run times. After about 20 runs his 20c 3 cell lipos will only power his boat for about 4 mins before LVC (low voltage cutoff) hits and will only charge back around 3000mah in a 5000mah pack

I don't see how anyone can get 20min run times in a boat. Absolute minimum C rating for a boat of this size imo would be 40C.

if you have 5000mah 20C batteries they can only deliver 100 constant Amps so if you have a 120A or 180A ESC and you punch more than 100A and a boat can easily run constant 160A you will destroy those batteries.

5000mah at 40C will give you 200 constant amps and that makes easy going for for the batteries as it can easily deliver the required Amps. So no stress no puffing and certainly no over heating.

I recently brought 4 5000mah 2s 30c lipo batteries but although there not as you recommend 40c rated, they will get me going for now. :-)

Thanks for all the pointers everyone. :-D

I run 2x Turnigy 5000mAh 3S 30C Lipo Pack's and the boat is insane. Lasts roughly 5min of full throttle before low voltage cut off kicks in.

Make sure there is no wind, flipped it flat out going straight for the first time today. Had to jump in the water FFS

at those speeds with a bit of rough water with wind doesnt take much to lift it up

I regrease the shaft every 3 runs, and almost everytime the grease has completely washed out leaving the shaft dry. So make sure you service it guys.

Overall, very good boat from traxxas. The castle electrics are fantastic.
