Sparton
I just bought a new style Sparton that will arrive Friday. The biggest difference from the old version and the new one is the new one uses Castle electronics designed to handle the big lipos that make it scream!
The old version would smoke esc's and wireing connectors quickly, and on board fires are a real possibilty. But as long as your just going to run the stock ni cads at 7.4 each 14.8 v total your ok. I bought mine to run hard, and have a set of 5000 mah 11.1 v lipos comming with mine for 22.2 v.
That said, I still would not hold full throttle for more than a few seconds at at a time, but its so fast you dont need to.

The old design rides lower in the water than the new design. The new design get out of the water faster and is about 10 mph faster with same electronics. Also the new design is alot more stable than the first one at 40+ mph. The new one we have is doing 56.2 mph GPS on 2- 3cell lipos. Old style is doing 47.3 same batt and electronics.
Actually there are 3 versions of these boats. 1 old electronics, 2 old hull new electronics, 3 new hull new electronics.
