I would think the hydroplane would be faster and more efficient, but less able to be used in rougher waters. I've also read the hydroplanes are more demanding with trims.

Latest update on my plans. I bought Chewie's H&M turbine viper hydroplane. Its powered by a 700 motor and 12 cells.

ok i see many of you are about using car escs in a boat..
unless the boat is 21 and under it doesnt work too well on six cells and a mod motor.. as far as a mod motor goes the lowest would be a 13 turn. ive done many hours of experimenting.. and anything lower is nto any faster and just yeilds super high temps.. sometimes unsoldering of the motor and far less run time..

the only esc i found to hold up that was a car esc was a novak cyclone.. my gtx went poof.. and all.. hell the cyclone even got soaked.. and i let it dry and it came back to life..

any ways..

if you wanted a REALLY fast boat.. youd go with a scat cat 21 and the aquacraft brushless out of the sv 27 and run 12 cells..

a catamaran. needs way less power to go just as fast as a mono hull.. due to less drag..

a hydro needs more power than a catamran but not as much as a mono.. due to less surface area..

so if your looking to get into boats. and have a nice calm pond by you..

opt for the scat cat.. and the aqua craft brushless..
youll have a much faster..
a turn left and right..
and more reliable setup..

plus the hull is only 45 something bux so if you take a hit.. its a easy replacement.

dont get me wrong. if you dont have the spare radio gear.. or the time to build a bby boat.. even though its not hard.. then get the sv27 but if you want the best bang for your buck go with the bby racing scat cat 21

props..
ok whole different subject..
you can get the beryilum ones for around 10 to 12 bux apeice..
you CANNOT run these raw out of the package..
YOU must balance.. and sharpen all of the edges.. sharpening.. is done by working the back side of the blade..
balancing is usually done after sharpening..

or you can buy the carbon props from offshoreelectrics.com
they are made out of carbon/glass.. and are very strong. and dont warp under load.. they are presharpened and pre balanced and cost around seven dollars..

if you guys have any further questions.. feel free to ask

I need to get a boat that is worth bragging about, right now I just have a Villain EX and a Blast...I was going to get beryliums for the Villain, I think it was gonna be around $50 or so balanced and sharpened, cuz I don't know how to do it.

They are fun play boats, but I might need a better one soon.

the equiv to x447 will work perfectly..

make sure to buy the counter rotating set..

any further questions feel free to ask

Would you say the Jeti 600 navy esc is the best bet for my boat? Do you run a separate receiver pack?

Should I keep the Villain? I like the look of it, it's just not as stable as you'd think for an almost 3' boat...Real bad chine rocking, I actually flipped it once and it sunk Turns out I forgot to re-install the rubber boots on the steering arms, and it filled the radio box, heh...heh...I guess it's time for upgrade!

I really want to convert it to single screw and direct drive, twin is cool, just a pain. I've stripped lots of gears in that reduction they have in it.

I have the dual water-cooling kit and that brought down motor temps by almost 45*! I was mega surprised.

wow this has helped a good amount actually. will the scat cat handle rough water like a mono boat? because i drive in a lake that can get pretty rough sometimes. if not then i guess i will be using a mono hull. but if not, i think i will go with the scat cat. it looks great and is apparently a nice boat. thanks for all the help guys

well the super vee will handle the rought stuff better than a scat cat yes but anything doin 30 plus mph isnt gonna be good in the rough.. even a mono..

umm.. theres acually a fiberglass copy of the villian.. on www.barnstormerboats.com a buddy of myne..

order it and get a light layup..

or my personal favorite the fdm 32 inch mono.. they dont make it any more and was a sleek lookin boat..

the only real good rough water boat ive seen is the villian.. and other really deep v hulls.. but then again those really deep vs are only good for so many mph before they start having problems...

ive done a single drive converion on the villian.. and plainly it just wasnt worth it.. if your looking to get another boat.. ebay the villian or keep it as a (retrival boat ) lol and.. find yourself a quality boat..

the performance upgrade will knock you on your feet..

umm yes the jeti navy esc.. is really the best bang for your buck.. go for it..

or buy the super vee brushless system.. muhaha..

pm me for my messager service if you wish to discuss boats...

yes and no.. i just tapped off of one of the batteries..
not both though.. just one... other wise you will get too many volts..

you can run a reciver pack though..

you can wire it to this dandy pullswitch i insalled on the back of the boat...

i

which owuld be faster and handle better in smooth water, the scat cat or the SV? if i get the scat cat i will most likely run the brushless system from the SV

That's smart. Did you just plug the servo/power plug from the cells into the receiver each time you installed the 12 cells? I like that idea, as it means I don't have to charge a separate receiver pack.

well.. condisidering that the super vee is at its best in slightly choppy water. because its a mono hull.. theres no force lifting it free of the water..

and on a catamaran is best at home on slightly tchoppy/glass water.. because the tunnel acts as a lift. and also the steps on the bottom help areate the bototm of the hull(break free of the water)

your best choice for a smooth water boat. would be the scat cat.. hands down..

no you run a plug that is the reciver type to the dandy pullswitch on the back of the boat.. and then you run the harness that goes from the switch to the reciver that way you can turn the radio off.. without unplugging the batts or taking the cover off..
