Are hobbywing motors any good? I've never used them...

I like the Tekin products. But have used Novak, Viper and LRP. Been using the Tekin stuff for a long time now mainly because of the price discount ( for military only) but have had great success with them. Still using my 6 year old RS Pro in my 4wd. Its on its 3rd motor, soon to be 4th.

Just get a Speed Passion 8.5t motor. They are about as fast as the newer generation 10.5t motors. They are CHEAP on ebay, and can handle more abuse than you can imagine.

Yall have had WAY better luck with those two brands than I have....... I had a tekin rs gen 2 a while back and it just randomly died...... Never plugged in backwards never overheated..... Just quit........then I had a speed passion 13.5 that I took out of one car and put in another..... No wires unplugged or anything same esc and turned it on and the motor puffed smoke and died when I turned it on to test it...(it worked fine in the other car).. Still don't know what caused either of these.....

So I was looking at the motors on Amain and notice that the Reedy has a better rpm rating at 7.4 volts and has a better power(W) rating than the Reds did..... Does this mean it is a better motor?
Also I noticed a large gap in Kv in these motors.... Such as the reedy had 37 hundred and the tekin had almost 4900 does this mean the tekins a better motor? I know higher Kv=more power but why are these ratings different for a specific turn motor?

KV is rpm not necessarily power. My Vampire V2 motors are more revvy than the old v1 motors that had more torque and punch down low. I use both depending what I want. I find LRP very powerful and Speedpassion less so. YMMV

Just reading through this and wanted to add my experience. I bought a sure speed 17.5 last fall for indoors in my sc6. At the time was very happy with the power. Then a friend's kid turned me on to team scream. In 17.5 blinky it was immediately faster. A few days ago I purchased a 13.5 for my stadium truck and it too was very good. When I move to mod sc I will start with their 10.5 motor. Quality is top notch and service via online has been exceptional. I live and race in Fantom's back yard so we see a lot of good motors here. IMO tsr is very strong.
