Default Servo sticks/locks w/ no power - works fine powered up?

I've got a Spektrum S6100 in my truggy. When the power is off, the servo will not move from left to right (but moves ok going from right to left). But, as soon as you powered the truggy back up the servo moves right/left just fine and doesn't make any funny noises. It does the same thing with the servo horn removed.

I took it apart, and didn't find any gears stripped or odd wear on the teeth.

Sorta lost?
