Default Novak havok esc issue

Hi
I have a Novak havok combo and I've only run perhaps two batteries on it

When I turn it on, I'm only getting the LED lights like every third or fourth time I turn it on
The servo works every time I turn it on but the lights and power to the motor, I have to try several times before that works
All wiring is clean and uncut or damaged.
Do I have a bad esc?
What should I try

If I just remove the on/off switch, what do I do with the center wire?
I think the center wire is for the programming button?
