Default Long wind up time on brushless motor

This may be a total noob question but here it goes... I got back in to RC a month ago and I have been playing with touring cars with 21.5t sensored brushless motors. It seems like when you pull the trigger on the controller they wind up to full speed in a mater of milliseconds. I got a Traxxas Slash roller for christmas and ordered a cheap Turnigy Trackstar 3520kv brushless non sensored system for it and while bench testing it I noticed that it takes about a full second to wind up to full RPM from when you pull the trigger on the controller. Is this normal or should it be more instant like the other brushless motors?

I think a lot of that would depend on the setup of the two cars. The slash is going to weigh a lot more than the touring car. Also depends on the slipper clutch too.

edit: are you testing the motors with them installed into the car?

No I am testing them on the bench with nothing attached.

I would think several things come into play.
1. the drivetrain/transmission of the slash is wildly different.
2. the esc on the slash may be set on a soft throttle profile. which could be great on the dirt.

I am testing the motors out of the cars on the bench so nothing attached to them. The ESC motor combo I have isn't specifically designed for the slash or off road. I may check into the throttle settings on the ESC though! Thanks

Sounds like punch control. My esc's all have low med and high options for initial power. You will notice it even with motor on the bench.

you really can't tell that way. I thought you had it mounted in the car but the car testing on the bench.

anywho, I have 1/8 scale motors that sound like they only hit 200 rpm on the bench like that. you just can't tell.

unless you have a motor tester,

You should NEVER 'free rev' a brushless motor with no load on it.

Bad things can happen.

Like what?

So the motor test in Castle Link shouldn't be used?

Rotors explode/shatter.

Most motor testers dont rev the motor up to full RPM or they power them with a 1S battery.
