Which power supply
Hey guys, I am looking at this charger and was wondering how big of a power supply I will need any input . I just want a real reliable system.

Right now i have a hitec x4 ac charger. The batteries I use are. 2s 7200mah and 4s 6500mah so I'd be charging at 7.2 and 6.5 amps

Also do u think that charger is overkill I just want to be able to charge my 4 cells better. My x4 can only do like 3 amps on them since it's only 50watts. Open to suggestions

Considering how much lipo's and the electronics in your RC are, $200 for a charger alone is within reason IMO. Myself I purchased a Revolectrix Powerlab 6 from Amain, very good charger. And if you're willing to spend that much on a charger, dont skimp on a power supply....buy something decent and that will meet your needs.
That being said, feathermerchantrc.com sells converted server PSU's for not a lot of money and many on this forum run them including me. For more money, you can buy a name brand from Amain and get an on/off switch and even a USB port for charging but in the end, I dont think there's a lot of difference.

The x4 is only 50w per channel. It will only charge those 4s batteries at 3 amps.
The only power supply I have experience with is the 25 amp trak power. Which I would not recommend because the first on I got was defective and the fans are obnoxiously loud.
Plus its rated to put out 15 volts but my meter shows its max setting is 14.68.

I know that my x4 only has 50 watts per channel and up to 6 Amps that is why I am trying to upgrade.
If I go with that prodigy duo how do u know how much power supply is enough is what I'm wondering?

So would the 25amp power supply be enough for that

I'd think you should go more. like a 40a 500+ watt supply.
Im not too knowledgeable about power supplies. so wait for a better response. I also know that you can bridge the outputs of two power supplies to make one really strong power supply.

I also seen a charger you can bind the two outputs to make one higher watt output. it was the new hitec H4 charger

I need to look into that and see if I can do that to this trakpower supply. I also seen a charger you can do that with too. it was the new hitec H4 charger

so I am now looking at this on amain I will not have to have a power supply and I can do my 2 2s at 7.2 amps no problems and it will charge my 4s a lil faster then the x4 for sure but should still be better then what I got. what do you think

hey I had to edit my post because of some mistakes. I looked up what I was talking about and I had it wrong. you can hook up 2 power supplies together not one with 2 outputs.

If you have an old PC power supply, it is about $10.00 to convert it to a nice power supply. I have a couple 500 and one 900 watt PC power supplies I have converted to run my chargers.

Just an idea. It works for me and your mileage may vary.

Minimum wattage someone should consider is 200w per channel. Lipo's can easily be charged at 3c or more without shortening their life. My recommendation is pickup the Hitec 400wx2 and convert the HP 47a server PSU. PSU is very simple to convert. Only requires jumping a couple of external pins.
If you want a higher end charger look at the FMA or Junsi line.

I don't think my lipos are over 1 c anyhow I'd have to check

If I were to do it over again a server power supply is the way i'd go. just because all these hobby supplies seem to have super loud obnoxious fans.

Actually my 4s says up 13.5 amps and my 2 s 7200mah says charge rates up to 6c does that mean 7.2x6?
