Third-Hand Soldering Stations

Third-Hand Soldering Stations
as a novice to soldering, i figured i could use all the help i could get - i ordered both a GRS #004-570 and a The Jig is Up as two distinct "third hand" soldering stations
on the GRS: wanted to report that this is a quality tool - it weighs in a hair under 5 pounds...very solid - it contains a thick fire proof board with tall articulated hands - it is fully adjustable - the alligator clips are extremely precise - very impressed - highly recommend - cheapest i could find it is here: http://stores.ebay.com/Paaz-Jewelry-Imports
on The Jig is UP, found here: http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.ph...igs-Up&cat=365, although it has a quirky name it is also a high quality product, cleanly manufactured, very solid and very well laid out for soldering plugs and connectors - also recommend

I've used this one for at least a year now:

I like the "Jig is up" though, I might get that one too.

U don't really need those. A cheap $6 stand from harbor freight is perfect. I solder up everything with one and have no issues from it holding all of the connectors and wires.
At first I thought I needed those jigs until I tried the simple helping hands and realized they work perfectly.

Eh? A third hand for bullets? I thought this was going to be a third hand with the adjustible aligator clips discussion.
For bullets I just use a set of pliers and a rubber band to hold it shut and lay the pliers on the side. Holds the bullet up perfectly and makes the job incredibly easy. Dont see why you would need anything more complicated than that.....
When I need something with arms, I use the rcproplus soldering station from amainhobbies. I tried a third hand soldering station from a hobby / electronics store and it was crap. The arms would always move and if you tried to tighten down the clamps the joiner would just bend and you could never get it to hold what anything with as much pressure as you needed. The rcproplus one uses grub screws instead, so you can actually really tighten it don and not have to worry about the arms moving if you have any pressure pushed onto them.
Easily the bet bit of kit I bought for soldering. A little pricey but worth it after spending $10 on those other stations and getting pissed off with how bad they were.
