There should have been an adapter in the box of your Gen2 Hotwire to plug right into the data port on the speed control. Here's a link to the adapter for reference:

No. I removed the fan months ago after noticing an increase in ESC temperature. Only things plugged into the receiver are the servo, ESC and transponder. I unplugged the servo and transponder to see if that had any affect. The ESC still showed an increase in temperature while at "idle".

The picture shows what the 3 prong port is for on the RS Gen 2.

If the ambient temp is on the lower side, the ESC will warm up idling. There's a lot going on even at idle. It can and often will warm up a bit.

The ambient temp was around 72. The speedo would heat up to around 82-83 degrees. After that it would stabilize. Didn't seem to affect performance.

A picture says a thousand words.... Thanks YZ. Now when you plug the hotwire into the reciever wire that let's you make all the fine tuning to the speed control.
And when you plug into the data port that let's have access to data logging and what else?
Also I didn't get her an adaptor wire in my hotwire. Does it come with speed control maybe?

Plugging the hotwire in through the port or the RX Wire both do the same thing. Full hotwire and data log capabilities..

The adapter wire would normally come with the ESC.

Default ESC wire

I had one of the wires come loose on the plug that goes into the receiver.
Is that an easy fix?

There are replacement pins and pliers you can buy from your local hobby shop.

So I got the plug fixed, plugged it back into the receiver, hooked up a battery, turned the ESC on, I have steering but no throttle, and the chime when calibrating or setting up is very very low. All wires are fine, fully charged battery, LED's are the way they should be.
What can the problem be?

The manual doesn't say much on whether the gen2 and gen2 spec can run a 1s battery. The Spec section for input says only 2s-3s Lipo but when you look to set battery voltage in Quicktune mode there's a setting for 1s.

You can run either on 1s, but it will require the use of a RX pack or booster.

What are the LED's showing? They're critical for understanding if the ESC is having an issue. A fault code maybe displayed:
