Is it true that as long as a 3 channel transmitter is paired with its corresponding brand of receiver it will work with pretty much any setup?

For example: a Traxxas TQi Link 2.4Ghz 3 Channel with a Traxxas TQi Link 2.4Ghz 5 Channel Receiver would work on a Losi Comp Crawler with Dig.

Is this right or is there more to it?

Yes pretty much. Youd only have 3ch operation tho.

in that case, yes it works, but its not always that simple. radio manufacturers have changed the communication protocall in the newer radios to make them faster, ill use airtronics as an example as thats what i have on order. they currently have fhss-2, fhss-3 and fhss-4. you are able to use a top end m12 radio thats fhss-4 with an fhss-2 or 3 receiver, however you cant use afn fhss-2 radio with an fhss-3 or 4 receiver. futaba has 2 different systems to my knowledge, fhss and faast, they arent interchangeable. not sure about spektrum or ko.

that being said, im sure thats far more info than you need. your example will work fine
