Default USB ESc connectors?

So it seems that most esc's can be upgraded with a USB adapter. Caste, Hobby Wing, Orion, SP, Viper and many others. Most all connect to the esc's receiver cable, and come connect to the switch or directly to the esc. But it seems that in almost every case is is a 3 wire connection. I assume pos/neg/signal. So is it possible to use different usb adapters on different esc's? After all it is just an adapter. No? For instance has anyone tried the castle adapter on a Hobbywing, or a hobbywing adapter on a viper? Does it work?

yeah I think SP/HW/Orion are all the same and made by the same people. But if you switched to castle or Viper would your adapter still work? It seems to me like it would just be an adapter. All of the esc information is in the firmware of the esc. If the windows driver is specific to the adapter, then i can see how the software may not pick up your esc. The castle adapter actually powers the esc and the rest use the battery. So I can also see how that might not be compatable.

hmm interesting. Thar would lead me to believe that is it just an adapter from pos/neg/signal to usb.
