Default Need advice on ESC/Motor upgrade

I have the stock AE B4.1 (XP SC450-BL ESC and Reedy 3300kv sensorless motor). I want to upgrade to be more competitive. Budget is around $300. I am looking at the CC Mamba Max Pro w/NC1406 4600kv motor $270. I am new to racing and need some advise. Would this be a good upgrade or can someone recommend something better? Thanks for you help.

Your $300 budget opens up a lot of doors, the castle setup is strong and will be fast, but most people race sensored. The max pro is a good ESC and will run you sensored, but I kind of like the Tekin RS Pro for 1:10 scale rides (well not the heavyier SC stuff).

I would say for the buggy a 7.5 - 17.5 motor would be good depending on the track layout and the class you want to run in. Some motors allow you to change the stator out to get a different turn and would be a good option to work your way through... maybe start with the 13.5 or 17.5 and then go down in turns as you get faster.
