2 questions to you
1) what do you plan on charging
2) do you have a power supply

I am planing on charging lipos batteries for my electric buggies and my nitro buggy/truggy along with starter box. I do not have a power supply. I notice the Hitec x4 plus AC/DC charger has one built inside. I just don't know which one to choose.

Neither. Too low wattage. Pick up either the Hitec 2x200 watt charger or the 2x400 watt charger.

Or you could invest in something that is better and more efficient in the long run. The Power Lab 6/8 is a great choice and the price is decent. You do need a power supply but good chargers are usually DC only.

I have been looking at getting a charger as well. Is the Hitec 2x a DC only charger?

That's all I've seen, either the original X2 or the newer X2-400, both are DC only.

I race 4 electric classes and 1 nitro class. I've been using the x4ac for a few months and love it. It charges plenty fast.

I run the X4 80 and it is a great charger. It will charge a 4S at 1C (~74 watts). The standard X4 will only charge at 50 watts. I got a Mean Well power supply and the charger for less than $300. If you need to charge at a higher rate for 4S batteries then you will need a charger with more oomph.

I have the X4-80 and am happy with the charger. For me it provides more than enough power.

At 2S you are limited to 6A per channel output. My LIPOs that I run are 2S and top out at a max charge rate of 4.2A so this is more than sufficient for myself.

Unlike their X1 it also allows storage mode at more than 1A.

You can also build your own 12V Power Supply from a computer power supply, you just need to ensure you buy/use one that has enough power output for your required input. For the power output, read the 12V rail specs from the power supply manufacturers spec sheet are what you need for an accurate power reading.

You can also use a car battery and car charger if you have spares around (charge via car charger using car battery as capacitor.) This is what I did until I finished building my power supply.
