Default Tamiya ESC, two leads, why?

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out why Tamiya put a separate BEC and servo lead on their ESCs, like the TEU101BK. Given that the BEC line plugs into the receiver and provides power to the other channels through parallel rails, would it stand to reason that one could splice the leads together?

As it stand the power flow is: battery > ESC > BEC > BAT port on RX > back to ESC???. Or does Tamiya not require power to the throttle servo line, just signal, like if you were running an external BEC?

It would be essentially the same thing as using a Y connector, but my friend wants to clean up some of the extraneous crap in his trail rig.

Thanks,
Jim
