I took this motor apart and compared it to a Reedy. This motor is a copy of a Reedy. The stator and rotor are interchangable. Components on the Reedy are of higher quality. Performance wise they are the same.

+1

You can buy parts of a Reedy motor from Tower Hobbies and they fit perfectly on the Turnigy motor.

I put a trackstar 2650 in my erevo, no wonder it works so good with 2 3cell life batteries and a 150 amp esc from the same place works great!

Just saying. USA people beware.

***ARGH!*** there is a company in China who two years ago stole our name and logo (though they changed it ever so slightly). At the time we were only a little over a year old and didn't think much about it actually thinking it was odd that someone would use our little shop's name (and logo).

Fast forward from then to roughly 9 months ago when I spoke to and retained an attorney to look into this matter being that we were consistently getting hate mail from people who were having issues with their products. Enough was enough so in saying that I want to point out that it is illegal to import, distribute or resell any of their products with the Track Star name on it in the U.S. Doing so infringes on Federal Trademark Laws and you will be sued.

I have a 17.5 in my offroad sc and love it. Very smooth and feels better than my D3 17.5.
One thing that scared me is from the very first run until now it still has that burnt motor smell. I have geared it properly and temp tested it brand new and it has never even seen 150f. It doesn't worry me so much anymore as I know my temps are perfect and it has lasted several races, but it still smells like a burnt, hot motor every race...And yes I've tested multiple temp guns and they all read the same, 140-145.
I'm going to try the original reedy sonic trick of trimming the sensor board tabs to let the board rotate further like they did with the first sonics to get full timing out of them.

If this response is to me, there is no problems with motor or esc, just that hot motor smell from the motor since new. Like I said I'm not complaining or even looking for answers as I'm very happy with it, it's fast and smooth, just sharing my thoughts on it.

I just might have to try these out. Crazy to think with this motor and the Brushless Hobbies ESC you can get a whole system for under $100.

or even better, pair it with a Speed Passion Reventon R and have a reputable esc with a warranty, return policy, and some customer service....

There are two different types of Trackstar motors. The grey one mentioned above and this red one below. The grey one is $32 and the red is $35... Obviously, I am wondering if there is something "better" in the red one that justifies the additional $3.

Thoughts?

The description of both motors are exactly the same. Spec-wise, here are the differences:

GREY
Specs:
Can Size: 540
Turns: 13.5
RPM/v: 3040kv
Sensored: Yes (Standard 6 pin harness)
Max voltage: 7.4 (2S)
Max Current: 36A
Max Watts: 255w
Can Diameter: 36mm
Can Length: 53mm
Shaft Size: 3.175mm
Weight: 178g

RED
Specs:
Can Size: 540
Turns: 13.5
RPM/v: 2590kv
Poles: 2
Sensored: Yes (Standard 6 pin harness)
Max voltage: 11.1~14.8V (3~4S)
Max Current: 21A
Max Watts: 310w
Resistance: 0.0363ohm
No Load Current: 3A
Shaft Size: 3.175mm
Can Diameter: 36mm
Can Length: 51.5mm
Weight: 156g

So it appears that the RED ones have a higher max voltage.

Should I care?

I have not had a single problem with either of my Brushless Hobby ESCs. The same cannot be said for my Speed Passion ESCs.

I compaired 17.5 red to 17.5 silver .

The red has a higher KV raiting, built in fan and is lighter. I am going to buy one to tst it out.

I think you're mistaken. The grey (silver) 17.5 has a higher kv rating. Also, where do you see the "fan" with the red motor?
