I am running a 40M straight track small to medium size technical with 4 small hairpins

It works just fine. You only need to reduce settings on the speedo as motor comes with lot of timing

My power button blinks red when in profile 2, is ROAR incorrect or am I not in correct/current software?

V3 is the newer model which runs a different and more innovative software than the V2. Both are still good speed controllers.

Hey guys im going to be running 13.5 blinky with the v3 but am new to hobbywing. Could somebody please elaborate on the throttle rate switch point and the 1st and 2nd stage switch point.

Also I am running a d3.5 with about 20 degrees of endbell timing geared at 4.4. Its nit getting too hot. Does this sound about right?

Hi,
In one of my cars I wish to run this ESC without the fan due to space issues.
It's just in a F104 running a 21.5T motor and a 4200MhA battery, so I don't expect the ESC to be working as hard as in my Xray T3 2012 (that one has the fan on it).

Has anyone run the V3 without the fan?
How hot does it get?

(by the way, the reason I have the same ESC in my F104 and the T3 is in case of emergency at racetrack, I can choose which car to pull out of heats if one of my ESC's blows up during a meet. Always have a backup!)

It will be fine with no fan in a f1 car with a 21.5. I set up a friends car up like that and it had no issues

Thanks, I thought that would be the case.
I'm still sorting out some other issues with the kit and build just now, so maybe in a couple of weeks the car will be ready for first live test.

When I posted here, I also sent and email to Hobbywing with same questions (but I also asked for limits on motor <21.5T and max Battery type).
I'll post any replies I get here for other users to reference.

Hi all,

Got a reply from Hobbywing:

If you run 21.5T motor, usually the cooling fan is not needed.

But please don't activate too much of boost timing and turbo timing, and you should monitor the temperature of the ESC after the trial running. If the ESC is very hot, that means maybe you active too much of boost timing or turbo timing.

Just because V3 ESC has the boost and turbo timing function, it is difficult to say for what type of motor the cooling fan of the ESC is unnecessary.

And you needn't consider about the battery capacity and C rate, only the battery cells number (2S or 3S)should be considered. When you use 3S, usually the using of cooling fan is always recommended.

I've asked them what temperature I should get worried (Hot is a bit vague for me!) - waiting for that response.

Has anyone measured the surface temperature on the heatsink during runs?
What is normal?
45-60DegC?

the esc will not overheat with a 21.5, ive run a boosted 4.5 (with the fan of course) at Heemstede in the IFMAR worlds and esc max temp in the data logger was only 90c max temp (which is what i would rate HOT)

Have been running my V3 with a 4.0 and 4.5 x12 and it World fine, the motor is about 80 celcius after 5.30 min :-)

You got tHe setting for this?

I usually run my LRP with 4 dot (minimum) timing insert which is 27.5 degree right? Had some one burn up an LRP x12 13.5 with 4 dot + 30 boost + 30 turbo + 5.5 FDR last weekend and his car was actually slow on the straight

my V3 burnt out on the weekend, running a 4.5T on large track. I get the feeling it had bad heat transfer between the electronics and the heatsink. (maybe i got a dud) because the temp reading on the heatsink was about 60c but the internal temp readout was 127c.
It has run sort of OK for 3 meetings but gave up, ironically after i reduced the timing settings. its a downgrade from my previous ESC in terms of speed. I know im running it close to its limits, when i first read internal temp and considered my car is a little slower on the straight than usual, i knew i had an issue.

I had thermal shutdown enabled at 125c so im supprised it failed. actually i dont see why this function should be user adjustable. maybe factory fixed at just under whatever the device can handle.
