That one has a built-in 22amp power supply which means it should be able to do 4 packs at a time at 5amps each which should be more than enough to keep your family charged between heats. A 5-6 minute race won't take enough out of your batteries to need to be charging 4 packs at 10amps+ at a time.

I'm in the same boat. I run SC and 1/10 ST with 2s 5000mah packs and 1/8 e-late model with either 1 4s 4400mah or 2 2s 5000mah wired together. Looking to buy a new charger and I like the hitec x4 AC plus for the fact of AC/DC and price. But would it be better in the long run to buy the x4 eighty and a power supply. Also only have 2 thunder ac6's now so would there be much of a decrease in charge time with the hitec's charging a single battery.

If you are racing you are much better off getting 3 chargers and a power supply...... it'll be cheaper, you'll be able to charge at higher rates and if a charger fails, you'll still have back ups....... with that single 4 port charger if anything goes wrong your day is over ...... oh yeah..... and did I mention cheaper?

The X4 might in a very rare case go out. Many people use them at the track in my area and I've never seen or heard of a single issue.

Buy four of anything from HobbyKing and the odds are not in your favor of having four of them remain working (just search the forum on "Hobby King") over the long run or even the very short, out-of-the-package-run.

If you really want to separate everything out of one box to create redundancy, order several of these AC/DC LRP ones that Associated is clearing out. It won't be cheaper but everyone of those you buy will outlast everything else you own RC-wise right now.

This charger question is like the difference between buying disposable razors and a good electric. You'll wind up shaved either way, how you get there will be personal preference.

I personally wouldn't buy the 50w charger. That is very limiting to what you can charge and at what amperage rates. You best bet is to get one or two of the 400w chargers as you can charge many lipos these days at rates of 5c and higher. get a 200w x 2 charger f you need. Heck, get a PL8 and parallel charge.

I got one of the sky rc 400w x 2 duo chargers and can charge a pile of batteries in no time at all.

at my track many people use the Turnigy's and haven't had a single issue. I have 2 turnigy's and a TP charger and even with 3 cars and six batteries charging, I always seem to have an open charger most of the time....... but then again i do have some down time between races......... at the end of the day get whatever it is that fits your budget and your needs...... you'll go crazy trying to take everyones suggestions into consideration.

I run four chargers to keep four cars running in four classes.
I use a 50W charger to top off my 220mah LiFe packs in two cars.
An iCharger 250W, a FMA Revelelctric 50W, and a Pro-Tek 200W to charger the main packs. Yes the FMA is only 50W but I'm only topping off a 1S pack with it for about 1,200 mah so at 4amps it doesn't take very long, about 30 minutes.

Here is the 4 channel 100w per channel unit that is a step above the 50w units.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...y_Charger.html

I have one of the 50w 4ch like the HiTec, & a few of the buttons failed after a season requiring some modding with new buttons.

50watt chargers are worth about $30 each, not much more.
