Questions?? Smooth?

Dear racers,

I've often read that some esc and/or motor is smoother then an another (or everything else). Is there any consensus on what smooth actually means?
I have a guess but would rather read it in your own words.

To me, it means the power from the motor and/or ESC comes on very linearly all through the power band and has no abrupt burst of power.

Exactly, couldn't have said it better. Smooth means your ESC doesn't do anything unexpected.

And don't forget the brakes.

Thanks guys, so my understanding of your replies is that if you pull e.g. 57% throttle or brake, than the closer to 57% power you receive the smoother it is.

Basically, yes but there are some tricks with the profiles and expo that will deliberately prevent, say, 45% throttle from literally being 45% but if done in a manner that prevents anything unexpected happening as the throttle proceeds towards max, can be a good thing.
