Default ESC Motor Reverse vs TX Throttle Reverse

Which is the better option?

I finished building my 22 about a week ago and of course after I got everything setup and plugged in, the motor by default was running in reverse. I switched the setting on my TX which worked fine but I was curious if it was better to do this on the ESC vs the TX? Thoughts?

Setup
Tekin RS
Novak Ballistic 7.5T
Futaba 4PL

Makes no difference

Just make sure your transmitter calibrates correctly to your ESC (correct light for throttle and brake)

Can also swap any two motor wires if you are running a sensorless motor

Cheers

It depends, they are two different things.

MOST Futaba radios require you to reverse the throttle in order to work in the "normal" direction (this goes for their air radios as well).

Most car ESCs can go either way, meaning you can calibrate your endpoints at either -100 to +100 or +100 to -100. But in your application, it doesn't really matter.

Additionally if it is a typical sensorless brushless motor you can swap any two wires to reverse motor direction.

Usually when you reverse your throttle servo channel in the transmitter, you won't have brakes from forward to reverse, but will have brakes from reverse to forwards. Your ESC is designed to work with how you calibrated the throttle. If you reverse the channel, the boost and timing settings, as well as the brakes won't work properly. If you set it to forward only, it should only go backwards, but it'll go backwards when you push the brakes.

Does the 22 require the motor to spin backwards when you use the mid-motor option? If so, then you need to reverse the motor using the ESC settings, and possibly make sure the motor's endbell timing is -12 instead of +12... That's a question for someone with more experience than me on the timing though...
