Understandable....If there was a $50 difference in price here like there is in the US it would be Ice all the way...it's the fact that at my LHS I was quoted the same price within a few dollars for boththese chargers thatis making it so hard to decide
Itis.and I've received updated pricing from my LHS that is indicating a price difference of about $25-$30 betweent he two chargers....pretty darn close...
a lot closer than the $50 spread seen in the US...I don't know why...it just is
The safe choise is the LRP, since it has proven it's value and there's good warranty.
The Ice has way more features and thus it have a higher bling-bling factor.
It's about finding out which features means most to you.
Charge quality; At my opinion and good quality charge, is a charge, which dont false peak and dont makes the cells too hot. If you go to big events, where the power supply fail from time to time, a recovery feature like LRP got, might be very valuable.
Multi phase charging; The LRP Pulsar Competition 1 AND 2 dont have this feature.
It's hard to find some reliable info on this, but I've talked to 2 persons, which tried it (both with Robitronic chargers), and they dont like it. It's true, that the batt hold a good capasity without being too warm. But lower temperature also means it has less punch. So the persons I've talked too, dont use it anymore - at least not for stock.
Besides, we're all using the same kind of cells with a certain limitation built in. And if one charger-manufacturer find a way to improve performance with, let's say 10%, then they all would charge like that.
Graphic display; At my opinion, it's not worth much, since data cant be saved and used for later comparisions.
As you say about backlit, dial versus buttons and 3 versus 10 memories, it dont mean a lot....
Personally, I would go with the LRP. Or try find the Nosram version, it might be cheaper.

From the explanations I'veheard the 3-phase charging may be a benefit for dead-shorted batteries, by usinga lower rate to wake them back up before blasting them with a high current charge.
Net pricing on the Ice just looked to attractive to pass up.....and if it doesn't work out, I'll simply buy another charger.
Nosram isn't an option as theyhave no presense that I know of in North America.
The nail in the coffin was the thread posted about the Pulsar 2 asking about the blue smoke. I have 2 friends that lost their Pulsar Comp 1's to static shock cooking the electronics. Until there is an explanation given, I'll stay away.
Who knows...6 months from now I may jump all over a Pulsar 2.
I will take a chance and get the Ice. I only wish it had a 20 or 30 amp dischage rate and a light. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if they make one with those features. I would even pay more for these features.
The companies that make these products are always so close to a perfect product, but then always seem to miss it by a hair. For example the Novak discharger tray has some of the options I want, except it has a low discharge rate, not my favorite design on how it holds the cells and it has a big price tag. I love Indi Zero 30's design, love how it hold the cells, has two fans, it's bipolar, but it has a cut off of 0.0 which I don't like. I don't know am I missing something?
with all the micro popularity, and racers wanting somthing to toy around with other then there hard core race cars, the lithium feature on this charger sets it apart.
the pulsar 2 doesn't do lithium. it's a good charger, but all in all, it's virtually the same as a pulsar 1.
I have used the ice, to see how I might like it. too my surprise it was actually pretty sweet, the article futurereal posted is right on. I'm convinced this is one sweet product, I have a gfx now, I wanted another comp charger, that also did lithiums, and boom, ice was made =)
Yeah the novak does a great job charging but thats it............ I wish they had an updated version too.... Looks like I'll be getting the Ice aswell. I've been using the duratrax digital charger as my home charger for awhile and it does the job just fine. So this should be a nice upgrade from both chargers.
from Tower. $127.96 shipped not bad. Plus, you get 1 yr. super savers club for that price. Free shipping for a year on the rest of my purchases. Great deals right now, I also saw the Pro 4 for $269 plus $20 off. Wish I had the money to get one.
Originally posted by newracer I have two on order from my LHS, going to sell my two Tritons to pat for them. The only thing it needs is a new face plate from tres
i cant beleive your selling ur tritons for ice. the only difference is the discharge rate. hahaha.
