Nothing to do with wire size mate

AA sized Nimh cells dont like being fast charged

You can charge them a little faster if you are in a hurry

Generally speaking between 0.5 and 1 amp is suitable

Cheers

You charge them at 2.7amps, they'll get very hot, much hotter than they'e supposed to. You will find the cycle life is very short charging them at this high of a rate.

I consider 1amp a max charge rate for any size AA. I charge my AAs at 0.5 amps (slow charge) as much as I can.

+1, because of the smaller fisical size of the battery being smaller they can not dissipate the heat as fast as the larger batteries. I charge mine at .5 amps.
